"ALONG THE WAY"

lt's cold outside and I'm sitting here at home in front of the stove, thinking about when we made this album “Along the Way”; so decided to write a few words for the sleeve.

I want to thank the friends who helped me make it:

The “Hot Vultures” Ian and Maggie Anderson for their very able help on slide and bass guitar; Maggie on bass, Ian on slide. This is the second time I've worked with them. The first time was on another disc called “Feeling Fine”, on which Ian did a fine job of teching. Ian, Mag, thanks a lot.

Youra Marcus for backing me with some good flat picking. I've known Youra since he was five years old, and saw him grow up into a fine guitar picker and a very fine banjo picker. (Yourry picks old time style clawhammer or down picking on the banjo). I'm looking forward to working with Yourry again.

Much thanks to my good friend Tucker Zimmerman for all the patience, ideas, and very good piano playing. I didn't even know Tuck played the piano till he sat down and started doing it. But special thanks for that song “Oregon”, that Tucker wrote specially for me. I am from Oregon and some of my family did get there in wagons. Cheerful as hell “Old Tuck” was during the whole time. lt was a pleasure working with him.

lt was Bert Jansh who got me doing “Cluck old Hen", thanky Bearttie, I enjoy doing that song.

lt was Wizz Jones who turned me on to the song “Anna Fehor”; thanks Wizz, it sure is a good one.

And Mary Claire (Tucker's wife) (makes good blackberries jam, she does) for loaning us your old man for the days it took to make it. Mary had to stay in Liege most of the time.

My wife Danielle (Danny), and Rebecca my little three year old daughter who sure knows how to tell her poor old dad what to do when it comes to making records.

And last bud not least, Christopher Luhr, our producer. We were pleased to meet up again. I knew him from before, back in the old “Welkom Cafe” days, there in Brussels. He's got ears like a fox, hears every note. Tucker does too. Between the two of them, they sheeur had me doing a lot of listening

I guess as you can gather, we had a good time making this record. A few friends sitting around, trying to make some music.
That's what we did and here's what we got. I hope you enjoy the singing and playing, maybe sit back and do a little relaxing which is what I'm going to do myself right now: that stove sure feels good.

All the best to you
